The first building to serve as church was purchased in 1952. It was largely due to the determination of the members that plans for a new church building were started in 1964. One could just not find enough pots and pans to catch the water drips! Many members can remember the musty smell left behind every time it rained.
On December 1, 1965, a new church building on the corner of 50th street and 56th avenue was dedicated.
In 1984, due to the increased growth of the congregation (now 52 families) it was decided to build a new church building. The opportunity also presented itself when the Mennonite Church offered to buy the old church building. The building at 50th street and 56th Ave, which now also included the property and house next door, was sold and plans for a new building were started. Property was purchased at the corner of Heritage Drive and Highway 36, and the building construction started.
In December 1985, the first service in the new church building was held. God had a very interesting way of dealing with His people; our former building was designed for 50 families. God filled it. Our present building is designed for approximately 100 families. God has filled it.
In addition to planning a new church facility, many members had also been involved in building a new Christian school. It was quite a financial load at the time, but it was blessed! In 1984, Taber Christian School was established, serving as a wonderful witness in the community.
In all the 50 years, we can look back with thankfullness to God for His blessing and we can look forward to what the Lord has in store for us. There are many ministries within this congregation, we can be thankful to the Lord for the work of all our pastors, leaders and volunteers. We pray for wisdom and ledership for the future. We press on toward the goal that we may be a beacon in our community and that we may continue to serve our Lord. Yes, as a congregation, we have had our joys and sorrows, but the Lord has truly been faithful.
As our anniversary theme "How Firm a Foundation" says:
"How Firm a Foundation, ye saints of the Lord
Is laid for your faith, in His excellent word
What more can he say than to you he has said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus has fled"
If we continue to look to Jesus for our refuge, then the future for our church and us is assured.
